C suspended 4th chord

Csus4

  • CR
  • F4
  • G5

Barre · Asus4 shape · 3rd fret

3fr2341×CRG5CRF4G5

What each note does

  • C is the root. It names the chord and is the note your ear hears as home.
  • There is no third. F, the fourth, sits in its place, so the chord is neither major nor minor. It wants to resolve to C or Cm.
  • G is the fifth. It adds weight without changing the character, so it is the first note to drop when a voicing gets crowded.
