How it is built

  • A major scale with a raised 4th: G instead of G♭. Seven notes.
  • G floats instead of pulling toward A♭ the way a normal 4th would. That one note is the dreamy, film-score sound; hold it over a D♭ chord and let it hang.
  • Same notes as A♭ major, started from its fourth degree.
